Iron Maiden stormed into the UK singles chart yesterday at No 5 with ‘The Trooper’ – their 16th Top Ten Single – taken from their forthcoming double Live album ‘Death On The Road’. ‘Iron Maiden have had more hits than any other heavy metal band in chart history, with 16 of their singles making the Top 10, 33 reaching the Top 40, and 35 entering the Top 75 since their 1980 debut Running Free’ (Music Week).
Over the weekend the band were inaugurated into America’s Rock Walk of Fame on Sunset Boulevard – an honour already bestowed on such musical luminaries as Elvis Presley, John Lennon, AC/DC, Queen, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and James Brown. With Sunset Blvd partialy closed and many media and fans in attendance, US Radio luminary Jim Ladd introduced the band and a presentation was made of a charity cheque from Rockwalk on behalf of Iron Maiden to Opus Foundation. The band then made the traditional handprints in the soft concrete and manager Rod Smallwood inserted Eddies claw before being ‘concreted’ by the band!
