Having established itself as the “Best New Festival” at the 2009 UK Festival Awards, SONISPHERE FESTIVAL KNEBWORTH moves from strength to strength with the announcement of our phenomenal 2010 headliners, as well as the first of many great bands for the three day event over July 30, 31 and Aug 1.

With the power to rock the very foundations of Knebworth Hall itself, the weekend headliners, both renowned for sensational live shows, are British Metal titans IRON MAIDEN – for whom KNEBWORTH will be their only UK appearance of 2010 – and German industrial rock monsters RAMMSTEIN, who make their first – and only 2010 – UK Festival appearance.

The legendary IRON MAIDEN, whose last UK concert was a sold out show to 50,000 fans at Twickenham Stadium in July 2008, are the biggest selling British Metal band of all time, with album sales in excess of 80 million based on a huge following around the planet built on extensive and spectacular World Tours and the sheer excitement of their live performances. Brit Award winners for BEST BRITISH LIVE ACT earlier this year, Maiden have been at the forefront of Metal for over twenty-five years and continue to go forward with ever increasing success both critically and commercially. Their last tour alone visited 38 countries and played to 2 million passionate fans, with the recent award winning DVD “Flight 666” of this tour making it to No 1 in 25 countries including the UK and USA, where it is still the top selling music DVD so far this year.  We are delighted to present a rare opportunity for Sonisphere fans to see one of the world’s truly unique and legendary bands in the magnificent setting of the grounds of Knebworth.
Prior to playing a few selected dates next summer, Maiden are currently working on a new album expected to be released late next year. Iconic frontman Bruce Dickinson took time out to comment:

“Knebworth has been the home of so many legendary concerts going back many years it really will be a privilege to play there. We enjoy the camaraderie of playing great festivals and are very much looking forward to getting back out to do some shows next summer and, as it will be over two years since we played the UK, we will certainly be looking to deliver a memorable and spectacular night for our fans!”

RAMMSTEIN, against all odds, have become one of the biggest selling industrial metal acts of all time since their formation 1994.  Despite singing in their native German tongue, the band has enjoyed huge success across the globe notably in the UK and the US, making them one of Germany’s biggest musical exports. Famed for outrageous and electric live shows, fans at Knebworth can expect fire, lasers, smoke and a hefty amount of explosives. SONISPHERE are proud to not only have the band headline at Knebworth, but also to host the band’s debut UK festival performance. Currently out on a world tour in support of their latest album, “Liebe Ist Für Alle Da”, the band commented on their headline slot:

“The great support that we’ve experienced from the UK fans has been beyond anything we expected. This will be the first time that Rammstein has appeared at a festival in the UK and we are looking forward to putting on a show that no-one will ever forget!”

In addition to the two headliners, we already have a host of major acts confirmed — and it’s not even Christmas yet!!
There is much more to come with dozens more bands to be announced in the new year — metal, rock, hardcore, thrash, classic, indie, punk, you name it, we will have it. From well-established rock icons to the hottest new names, if they rock and are worth seeing, they will be playing at Knebworth. Keep up to date on all the developments at our website www.sonispherefestivals.com

So it is with great anticipation that we can already announce the following line up –

Firstly, the exclusive UK appearance of two bona-fide thrash legends.

From the west coast of America, the heaviest of the heavy, SLAYER will take to the Knebworth stage to deliver furious metal delivered at breakneck speed. The Grammy nominated LA Kings of Thrash have not appeared at a UK festival for 3 years, and their exclusive appearance at SONISPHERE this summer will be a welcome return to a festival stage in the UK.

Complementing this performance, from New York, speed metal kings ANTHRAX return to Knebworth with John Bush back in the fold. Alongside SLAYER and last year’s headliners METALLICA, ANTHRAX are one of the BIG FOUR who have made Thrash metal what it is. Comments guitarist Scott Ian

“God-damn we couldn’t be more thrilled about being a part of Sonisphere 2010!!!! We are still buzzing from our insane show at Knebworth last summer and are drooling over the fact that we are a part of this history making festival!! What an amazing Xmas present for Anthrax and our fans. See you all very soon!!”

Flying in from LA for their only UK show of 2010, Glam-metallers MÖTLEY CRÜE will be bringing with them their sleaze-drenched Rock. The embodiment of the Rock’n’Roll spirit and with over 80 million albums sold, the Crue will be armed with a catalogue of hits as VINCE NEIL, TOMMY LEE, NIKKI SIXX and MICK MARS shock their way through anthems such as “Girls, Girls, Girls”, “Dr Feelgood”, “Kickstart My Heart” and “Shout At The Devil”.

THE CULT, also making an exclusive UK festival appearance, have marked England’s place on the global rock map, being one of the few UK hard-rock bands to truly break in the US. They enjoyed six top-ten albums, with a string of hit singles amassing a huge and dedicated fan base. IAN ASTBURY and co will be making their first UK festival appearance in nearly a decade at Knebworth next summer.

With so many legends on the bill already, one would think it impossible to confirm more so early on. But we can announce that IGGY & THE STOOGES are also set to play an exclusive UK festival show. Instrumental in making Metal, Alternative and Punk Rock – all essential ingredients of SONISPHERE – what it is today. IGGY, notorious as the Godfather of Punk, and his band will be highly anticipated we are sure and will certainly make their presence felt!

SONISPHERE FESTIVAL KNEBWORTH is set to be an even bigger monster in 2010, with the extra day of music added. Friday 30th July will see the festivities getting started with a Rocky Horror show theme, and ALICE COOPER — the legendary godfather of theatrical rock — suitably closing the evening on the SATURN stage at his only UK festival performance of 2010. With hits such as “Schools Out”, “Poison” and “Hey Stoopid” plus a full theatrical set, the iconic singer is the perfect focus for the evening’s theme. Fancy dress is expected and encouraged. In addition to the acts on SATURN, there will be bands performing on two tented stages from 6pm until 11pm.

Regular campers will have access to the campsite from 12pm on the Friday, but for a mere £5, the festival campsite will open for early campers at 3pm on Thursday 29th July, with Bohemia village open from 6pm Thursday right through until 3am Sunday morning, for non-stop fun with white knuckle rides, dodgems, arcades, comedy, massage, bars, market stalls, and cafes to chill out in.

If you missed out on last year getting to Knebworth Park is EASY! Only 25 minutes from London and 2 hours from Birmingham, Knebworth is right on the A1(M) and served by a mainline train station. Add to that the FREE shuttle service and coach packages offered by Sonisphere and you can be sure you will be standing in front of the Apollo stage in no time.
