Last night Iron Maiden were awarded a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance for the song El Dorado from the new album The Final Frontier.
The album, which went straight to no.1 in 28 countries worldwide, was also the band’s highest-charting album in the US, debuting at no.4 in August 2010.
Iron Maiden have just kicked off their 2011 Final Frontier World Tour in Moscow, flying 50,000 miles to circumnavigate the Globe in 66 days on their customised Being 757 Ed Force One carrying band, crew and over ten tons of stage equipment. The next stop is Singapore on Tuesday. This will be their first-ever show in the country, playing to a sold-out crowd of 12,000 expectant fans. This is followed by debut performances in both Indonesia and South Korea, Australia’s Soundwave Festivals, Japan and stadiums around Latin America before finishing with two shows in Florida. On this leg of the tour alone Maiden will play to over three quarters of a million fans.
The tour will continue to the UK and much of the rest of Europe in the summer.
