IRON MAIDEN return to Rock in Rio to headline the prestigious opening day of the 2022 festival on Friday September 2nd marking the band’s fifth appearance at this legendary music event, with memorable shows spanning 36 years across their career to date.
Bruce Dickinson says “When we were offered the chance to return to Rock in Rio next year and headline the opening night again of course we all said yes immediately. Maiden fans know that this festival is very special to us because of our long, shared history together. The Rio vibe is unique and the passion from the crowd never short of electrifying. We had so much fun playing the Legacy show last time, you’ll just have to wait and see what we have planned for 2022…. All I will say is – as long as you want us (and Eddie), we’re going to keep coming back to see you Brazil!”
Maiden’s first visit to Brazil was as special guests to Queen on the opening night of the inaugural Rock in Rio 1985, returning for a triumphant headline show in 2001 on their Brave New World tour, captured on film for their global chart-topping DVD Rock in Rio. When they headlined again in 2013 on the Maiden England tour, all 100,000 tickets sold-out within hours, a situation repeated in 2019 on the Legacy of The Beast Tour.
